I just wanted my #Mastodon and #Pixelfed posts to show up nicely on my own #WordPress site.

I couldn’t quite find something that felt clean and lightweight, so I tried the DIY route. Worked out with a fair amount of curiosity, trial and error, and probably more tabs open than strictly necessary.

Quite happy with the result:

New: native Gutenberg block, configurable source filters, control over the initial number of posts and inheritance of plugin defaults. Still lightweight, open source, privacy-conscious and RSS/Atom-first.

The wp.org review is still running. Until then, I’d be very happy if anyone wants to test it…

🚨 A heads-up for anyone running #WordPress, #Moodle, #Nextcloud or other PHP-based services.

PHP has confirmed two critical vulnerabilities, both rated 9.2/10. Fixes are scheduled for today, 21 October, at 14:00 UTC.

Prepare to patch PHP, not just your applications. CERT-EU advises considering temporary isolation of public-facing services if prompt patching isn't possible.

It sounds pretty bad. Affected versions are not yet confirmed but I've heard 5.4+

Angreifer nutzen offenbar kompromittierte UpdraftCentral-Schlüssel, um unbemerkt schädliche Plugins auf betroffenen Websites zu installieren. 1/3

Mir vergeht zunehmend die Lust, in meinen Blogbeiträgen auf externe Quellen zu verlinken. Mein WordPress-Linkchecker prüft Links gerade einmal monatlich. Von aggressivem Crawling kann keine Rede sein. Trotzdem hagelt es 403-Fehler, oft wegen Bot-Schutzmechanismen wie Cloudflare.

Jeder vermeintlich defekte Link landet im Dashboard und muss händisch geprüft werden. Im Browser funktioniert er natürlich.

Die Konsequenz: Websites, die solche Prüfungen blockieren, verlinke ich künftig nicht mehr.

Gestern Abend habe ich meine eigene Seite aufgerufen und eine Fehlerseite bekommen: keine security.txt. Bei 98 von hundert deutschen Webseiten fehlt diese Klingel, also die Datei, die sagt, an wen man sich wendet, wenn man eine Sicherheitslücke gefunden hat. Zehn Minuten Arbeit. Reden wir drüber!

✉️ Ein Tipp: E-Mail. Den Kanal kann man relativ gut noch selbst kontrollieren (wenn man niemanden bei GMail erreichen muss). Alle Arbeit sollte dazu führen, dass man die Leute per E-Mail erreichen kann.

Ich würde aber sagen: Baut Euch auch eine Präsenz im Fediverse auf. Mag sein, dass ihr vor eurem Publikum hier seid. Es ist eine Investition in einen Kanal, den ihr mit aufbaut - der euch dann aber auch gehört. Wenn eure Website ohnehin auf WordPress oder Ghost basiert, nutzt die ActivityPub-Funktion. Baut eure Website zum Kommunikationskanal um!
