Plasma Pass on Plasma 6.8 had a tiny, almost unusable popup. Tracked it down to missing preferred dimensions in QML.

Two lines fixed it! Tested on Fedora 45, CI green, and the MR is now open upstream.

There is nuance here. LibreOffice claimed no AI as a *feature*. They did not say they would not have vibe coding.

I am not saying it is right. In fact I am outright disappointed ( @libreoffice ).

But their claim and vibe coding in the project are mutually exclusive. I'll criticize the vibe myself.

Hello Fedora Linux 45! 🎉

Just upgraded my ThinkPad X1 Carbon from F44 to F45, and the upgrade went incredibly smoothly!

Yes, it's still pre-release software. Yes, I'm running it at my own risk. And so far? Absolutely rock solid!

Some highlights:
- Tighter security: ptrace restricted by default
- Fresh dev stack: Python 3.15, GCC 16.2 & Go 1.27
- kmscon replaces the legacy kernel console
- RPM package signatures enforced by default

Great work, @fedora team! ❤️

Okay, the discussions lately have convinced me that my thinking is a bit off.

On the one hand, rejecting Fedora Linux because it’s now owned by IBM via Red Hat - which is a U.S. Big Tech company -and on the other hand, installing Windows on a computer for that very reason... the anger over Trump and the omnipotence of U.S. tech companies (and Trump’s political abuse of them) really does make my brain short-circuit sometimes... So moving forward: less hyperventilating, more fresh air into the brain.

At the end of the day, it’s still a thousand times better to go with Fedora than with Microsoft. That’s why I’ll be using Fedora again - also because, with version 45, my 5G modem finally works in my ThinkPad, something that hadn’t worked on any Linux distribution before. And as a dual-boot system on my NUC 16 PRO, where Fedora is also the only Linux distribution that runs without any issues.

The other two mini-PCs will stick with Debian Testing, which works wonderfully on them given their age.

And then there’s also my ThinkPad P51 running FreeBSD.

Even during my time away from Fedora, I always believed that Fedora is by far simply the best Linux distribution. No other distribution is quite as trouble-free and advanced - the perfect mix of up-to-date features and stability.

As a Red Hat Linux user since 1997 and then on board since Fedora Core 1, I regretted - from a technical standpoint - having to switch to another, non-U.S.-based system for political reasons.

Android Auto without Google Play Services: an open-source alternative worth watching.

AARE is an open-source project aiming to reimplement the smartphone side of Android Auto, allowing apps to appear on your car’s display without relying on Google’s official solution.

Here’s what it offers:
🔹 Navigation with apps like CoMaps and Organic Maps
🔹 Music, podcasts and radio, including support for Navidrome
🔹 Messaging: Signal, WhatsApp and SMS, with message readout and replies while stopped
🔹 An alternative voice assistant
🔹 USB or wireless connectivity

The goal is to give users more freedom in their choice of apps while reducing their dependence on Google’s ecosystem.

One caveat: the project is still at an early stage of development. Compatibility and real-world performance in a car remain to be verified.

Eigentlich fahre ich an der Hochschule keine Updates mehr.
Es sind Rolling Release geworden, obwohl #Debian Stable und #SLES 15/16 es eigentlich nicht sind.
Es vergeht kein Tag ohne das Einspielen von Patches und Securityfixes

Gestern brauchte es eine gesonderte Freigabe des Landes Baden-Württemberg für mehr als 10 Stunden arbeiten.
Personalrat ist auch eingebunden.
Meiner Meinung nach brauchen wir mehr Kollegen, aber das Land hat dafür nicht die Finanzen.

Updates are landed now

Please don't get me wrong, but Debian, FreeBSD, Ubuntu, Alma, Rocky, Redhat all have their PHP updates. For a good 3 hours.

I'm working overtime and waiting for the new PHP security updates and none are coming. Meanwhile, the server services are at a standstill. SLES has nothing. Even if I had built the RPMs myself, I would be done by now. I find it very difficult to defend SUSE right now.

In addition to a number of bug fixes, this release of our authoritative DNS server adds UNECE and ISO RR types and a report-channel config option to return a Report-Channel EDNS option in responses.

Also, a catalog-group-pattern option to limit the patterns from which catalog consumer member zones may be configured by using the group property. Thanks to Qifan Zhang, Palo Alto Networks, for the suggestion.
